ABOUT

James is a feature, commercial and music video

cinematographer who draws on real life experiences for inspiration in his lensing. He finds the beauty and the grit in natural situations.

Born in Phoenix, AZ, the light of the Arizona Desert - especially the shifting hues and shadows on the desert landscape during monsoon season - mesmerized the young Wall. At the age of 15, he played in a small punk band that released a slew of records and ended up touring the world, witnessing a broader spectrum of cultures and locations that opened his eyes to the possibilities of light capture and informs his work to date.

The first documentary short Wall photographed, “Dimmer,” was shortlisted for an Academy Award in 2006 after screening at the Sundance Film Festival. In 2016, his feature “Play the Devil” premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival and was an official selection for Cameraimage in Poland.

James Wall has travelled and worked all over the United States, Central America, Europe, North Africa, Japan and the Ukraine — he looks forward to his next photographic adventure.
